Highlights / General details
Cotococha Amazon Lodge is located 200 km (125 miles) southeast of Quito, and can be reached in an amazing 5 hour drive from Ecuador's capital or a 4 hour drive from the town of Baños. The surrounding area forms part of the Upper Amazon Basin, known as one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world and characterized by small Quichua communities and abundant vegetation. Day 1
Arrival at the lodge in the afternoon. After the long journey we have time to rest and relax in the cabins. Dinner. Drink of welcome and meeting at the campfire to coordinate the activities of the next day, in addition to receiving an explanatory talk on the jungle by the administrator of the cabins.
Day 2
Early in the morning we will have breakfast. Then we will prepare our equipment such as boots and water ponchos to begin our adventure. We take the canoe of the cabins and headed downstream, crossing the wonderful Ecuadorian jungle in the waters of the majestic Rio Napo. We will arrive to Misahualli, where we will stop 30 minutes to perform the respective check-up in the Marina. Don't forget your Passport! We continue our tour of the Napo, until you reach the Arajuno River. Here we visit the Amazon animal rescue Center. This is a center specialized in the rescue of wild animals for their preservation and reintegration in their natural habitat. Here we will see a variety of species such as toucans, parrots, parrots, monkeys of various kinds, Jaguars, Capybaras, and many more. After this visit, we will have a lunch at the River, picnic-style. Here we will also have the opportunity to swim in the river or simply enjoy the beauty of the place. We will start our return towards the cabins. We will stop in one of the indigenous communities that are on the banks of the river Napo. Here we will visit a family Quichua, which we show their ancient ancestral customs about how you wash gold on the banks of the River, the development of its traditional ceramics, the preparation of your typical chicha of yucca (traditional drink) and the use of the Blowgun hunting techniques. After this interesting moment in the Quichua culture, we return to the Lodge enjoying a short tour of the secondary forest. In the evening after dinner, we have the meeting of all in the area of fire.
Day 3
In the morning after breakfast, we leave by canoe up the river. After about 10 minutes of travel arrived at one of the banks of the Napo River, where we descend to start entertaining hike of about 1 hour, observing the flora and fauna of secondary forest. Arriving at the end of our tour we have a beautiful waterfall, called the cans. Here you can enjoy a refreshing swim in its waters and relax enjoying the beauty of the surroundings, which mixes the sounds of the forest, with the force of the water fall, making the place a spectacular site. We return to lunch in the cabins In the afternoon we ready for a walk in the forest of this area. In this walk through the forest you will find several species of medicinal plants and insects of all kinds.
